It’s never fun getting late notice of a surprise visit from someone, and your house is a mess. Or maybe you’re like me, and you procrastinate cleaning because it seems to take up to much of your day off. I also tend to have A.D.D. when I clean, making it even more of a hassle.

So, I decided to try a quick cleaning method to make the process much more painless and more productive. In this post, I will show a strategy for how to clean house fast!

How To Clean House Fast: 8 Simple Steps

If you need to clean in a hurry, here are 8 simple steps for how to clean house fast!

  1. Take out the trash…all of it

The first thing I do when I clean is grab a big trash bag, go through every room, and collect all of the trash. This includes trash in the cans and anything lying around that hasn’t been thrown out yet.

Go from room to room and collect all of the trash, and immediately take it out to the curb or dumpster.

2. Do the Dishes

Dirty dishes are a nuisance and pile up quickly. Before you start washing the pile in the sink, go throughout the entire house and pick up any dirty dishes.

That way, you have all the dishes ready to be washed rather than just doing what’s in the sink. Once you collect the dishes from all over the house, wash them and put them away.

3. Gather up all of the laundry

Laundry has a way of being flung all over the house. Especially as the weather gets colder and we dress in layers. Sweatshirts hanging off of chairs, socks, and shoes by the door, you know it’s everywhere it’s not supposed to be.

So grab your laundry basket and work through all the rooms of the house and gather up all of the dirty laundry.  Then head to the washroom and separate it into loads so you can quickly wash it. Now it’s picked up from all over the house and ready to be tackled.

4. Clear counters of clutter

This is my go-to for how to clean house fast! Counters are notorious for being “dumping grounds” for random stuff. Grab a box and grab everything off the counters that don’t belong there.

Sometimes, I will use various boxes to make this step easier. For instance, a box for bathroom items, a box for kitchen items, and so on.

Go through the entire house and put any items in the box that shouldn’t be left out. Don’t put it away yet; just get the clutter cleared fast and use the next step to put it away.

5. Put Items Away Where They Live

Once you collect up all the clutter lying around, go through and put the items away where they belong. Pick a room and clear the box of all the items that belong in that room.

That way, you aren’t running from room to room putting things away. It makes the process much more efficient and saves a lot of time.

6. Get to dusting!

Now it’s time to evict those dust mites! Once you are done clearing clutter off the counters and getting everything put away, bust out your feather duster or rag and pledge and wipe down all your counters and knick-knacks.

Even a quick dusting is better than nothing.

7. Clean the bathrooms

This post is about how to clean house fast; deep cleaning is another story. However, more than likely, your unexpected guests will need to use your bathroom.

So, that’s why I always include the bathrooms in my quick cleaning method. Now that you have everything picked up, aka dirty laundry, cluttered counters, etc. Cleaning the bathroom will be a cinch.

Bust out your favorite cleaning products and make that bathroom tile sparkle and leave it smelling minty fresh.

8. Vacuum the Floors (Mop too)

It’s incredible how much a clean floor makes a house seem tidier than it is. 🤣 The last step in how to clean house fast is to tend to the floors. Go through and vacuum all of the floors first. Don’t forget to vacuum close to the baseboards while you are at it.

After you are done vacuuming, it’s time to mop those floors. Make your life easier and invest in a Simpli-Magic mop so you can get it done in a hurry with less fuss.

3 Quick Tips for Keeping a Clean House!

A messy house can be frustrating, time-consuming, and cause anxiety. However, there are a few things you can do to help keep your house clean all the time. Try these tips to prevent your house from getting too messy:

  1. Declutter so you have less stuff

Clutter can make a clean house still feel messy. So, try a decluttering challenge and get rid of things that are just taking up space.

Many of us have too much stuff anyway, and lightening your load can do wonders for your home.

Use these decluttering questions to help you unload all that extra stuff you don’t need!

2. Put items away immediately

My husband told me his mom used to ask him, “Where does that live?” when he would throw something down where it didn’t belong.

This is such a simple and powerful method for keeping a clean home. Rather than dumping stuff on counters or on furniture, simply put it away as soon as you are done with it.

This will keep your home tidy and much easier to clean!

3. Start a weekly cleaning routine

Cleaning every week can help you from being overtaken with dirty dishes, laundry, and mess. This is my new goal, if I were to be completely honest. So, I created a cleaning checklist template for my new weekly cleaning routine.
