When you’re pinching pennies but want to update your home, you might feel a little frustrated. But just because you’re on a budget, it doesn’t mean you can’t give every room in your house a refresh. Here are some easy, budget-friendly DIY home decor projects to try.

Kitchen

One of the easiest DIY Home decor projects that will update any room in your home is to give it a fresh coat of paint. The kitchen is especially good because changing the cabinet color can make a drastic difference. Swapping outdated hardware for sleek new handles and pulls will also give your cabinets a fresh and modern look. Don’t forget to consider switching light fixtures too.

If you love coffee or tea, creating a nook in your kitchen for all your essentials is a great way to add some charm to the room. You can DIY some coffee art and make a mug rack like this one by Creative Play Travel to display your seasonal mugs. Switch up the surrounding decor with the seasons to keep the area looking good all year.

Bedroom

Like paint, wallpaper is another DIY option that instantly transforms a room. Whether it’s one wall or all four, hanging new, fun wallpaper will change the whole look of your room. Alternatively, you could paint your ceiling!

Dress up your bedroom with a custom headboard. With some wood, foam, staple gun, and fabric (and a few other small or optional items), you can have a one-of-a-kind headboard in a few hours.  Check out this DIY Fabric Headboard tutorial from The Spruce for step-by-step instructions.

Personally, we feel a nightstand in your bedroom is a must, and one with an eye-catching paint job like this one on Shutterfly is even better. If you don’t already have one you can use, grab a stool at the thrift store and some paint to match your room (or your new headboard).

Paint it all one new color if it needs a complete refresh. If the main color is fine, then skip to the next step, which is painting either the upper or lower half of the stool in a different color. Don’t forget the painter’s tape to keep the lines clean.

Bathroom

One of the best and easiest ways to make your bathroom look more chic is to frame your builder-grade mirror. From wood trim to peel-and-stick tiles, you can change your bathroom mirror from blah to ahh!

Towel storage is another necessity of any bathroom. If you’ve run out of space under your sink and you don’t have a linen closet, you can create towel storage with a wine rack. When hanging it, be sure to drill into the drywall carefully and properly –– this is an item you will use frequently, so you want to be sure it’s secure.

Living Room

Adding plants to a room brings life into it; it also cleans the air and adds a pop of color. Pothos, aloe, spider plants, and heartleaf philodendrons are extremely low-maintenance plants and easy to keep alive.

Grab some old planters or pick some up from a second-hand store, give them a fresh coat of paint (or spray paint), and voila –– you have yourself a new-to-you miniature indoor garden.

Do you have a knack for knick-knacks with nowhere to place them? Build yourself a keepsake cubby to keep all your memories safe.  You can learn the exact steps to make one over at A Piece of Rainbow Blog.

If it’s wall decor you need, you can create your own beautiful macrame wall hanging, paint your own abstract art, or create a photo collage.

Laundry Room

For starters, swap out your giant plastic tub of laundry pods for a cute canister and pour your fabric softener (and/or liquid detergent) into a glass or clear plastic jug or dispenser.

In a small space like a laundry room, visual clutter can make the room feel even smaller, so streamlining your containers will make it look nicer.

It’s also fun and easy to make laundry room art. Clip socks that are missing their match on a DIY hanger that says “Searching for a sole mate,” or use vinyl letters on a piece of wood that says “The laundry is always looking at me dirty!”
